Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity

The Kaimātai Pakihi Matua - Senior Business Analyst, contributes to the development and delivery of a planned and systematic work programme working with stakeholders to identify opportunities to create organisation-wide consistency in process and system initiatives and improvements across Te Puni Kōkiri

The Senior Business Analyst works with the Business Analysts and Manager to provide high-quality analysis, performance information and reporting for knowledge systems. This involves gathering and analysing business requirements and improvement proposals and advising on the effects and benefits of proposed changes. They provide and contribute to fit-for-purpose advice and solutions that not only meet the needs of the organisation and comply with legislative and mandated requirements, but also contribute to achieving outcomes that enable thriving whānau. 

The Senior Business Analyst is proficient in qualitative and quantitative analysis and applies broad knowledge of design and analysis methodology and understanding to support an enduring, customer-centric experience. This means designing and applying tools and models to analyse workforce and workload planning, business data and business processes.

The Senior Business Analyst will lead within the team, by championing best practice, leading key projects, and mentoring other Business Analyst Team members. They will work across the organisation to ensure that projects are aligned to internal strategies, government strategies, and industry standards.

Education/Professional Qualifications and Technical Skills

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience; and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Have proven experience in delivering operational excellence through the successful implementation of business and system improvement.
  • Able to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships and effective networks across and within organisations.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret complex documents, including legislation, financial, numerical, and business information.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercises sound judgment and organisational awareness.
  • Be flexible, adaptable, and pragmatic.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Demonstrate a high level of business acumen.

  • Technical knowledge in Information Systems

Work Experience

  • Providing Business Intelligence and or Business Analytics in a complex organisation.
  • Understanding of public sector systems and processes, including the use of performance information to inform decision-making.
  • Experience leading in a project environment.
  • Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to influence and respond to changing needs and priorities.
  • Undertaking research, quantitative and statistical analysis, and interpretation
  • Interpreting data and reporting results to a non-technical audience
  • Communicating with a wide range of audiences on complex issues
  • Understanding of relevant systems and processes, including accountability requirements and the use of performance information to inform decision-making
  • Ability to learn technical terminology and expertise in the languages used in the application(s) at least to the point of being able to specify changes
  • Development of business process and system requirements and service level documentation, including of major process change
  • Design and management of business acceptance testing
  • Comfort in operating in a tikanga / kaupapa Māori environment

A degree of fluency in Te Reo Māori is desirable. Te Reo Māori lessons are available in-house
